James Samuel Powell, 71, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, May 19, 2023. Born on June 2, 1951, in Wayne County, he was the son of the late James Robert Powell and Mavis Arlene Powell.

A memorial service to celebrate Sam’s life will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. on the lawn of his home, 1439 G. Worley Road, Princeton, NC 27569.

Sam worked with his dad as a carpenter for many years and was skillful with his hands. He also worked for a long-time employer and friend Timmy Rhodes with Southern Ready Mix. Sam took pride in his passion for his collection of John Deere tractors and took every opportunity to show them off. He also got great joy from his ice cream.

Sam is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Heath Powell of the home; his daughter, Stacy Powell of Goldsboro; sister, Teresa Worley of Mt. Pleasant; brother, Robert and wife, Kay of Mount Olive; and three grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Carter.
