Bob Ivey Smith fought the good fight and finished his course here on earth on May 17, 2023. He left this life just as he lived, giving to others. His final act of being an organ donor was all part of Bob’s loving and caring nature.

Bob was born in Wayne County to Ann Duncan Smith and the late Charles Robert Smith. Bob was no stranger to hard work. He ran a successful business that was built on trust and loyalty. He treated his customers like family. They knew Bob’s word was good and this is how he conducted business and his personal life.

On December 5, 1981, Bob married the love of his life, Donna. When they made a commitment to be together until death parted them, they meant it. There were many challenges and hardships. But in the end, after salvation, their marriage covenant was the most important of their lives.

Bob never met a stranger. He could carry on a conversation with anyone and seemed to be able to pull the good out of so many. He was one of the most giving people, yet would often give in secret. He never wanted recognition, he simply wanted to help others.

Bob’s favorite people to be around were children. He had a heart for young people and wanted to help them in any way he could. Bob was a big kid himself so children just flocked to his larger-than-life personality and kind spirit. He had a special place in his heart for his son and found that his grandchildren were absolutely the light of his life. They knew they were in for a treat when they were with Pa and there was never a dull moment. His love didn’t stop there. He was a father figure and friend to his extended family and many who simply thought of Bob as their own. His legacy of giving and love was felt by so many.

Bob was a member of Garris Chapel Church. He loved the Lord and sought to follow God by serving Him and others. Many have experienced the support, encouragement, and love shown by Bob. He gave all of himself to take care of those around him. His joyful and exuberant presence is already missed. There was no one quite like Bob Ivey Smith.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Garris Chapel Church on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 6:00 pm. A time of visitation will follow the service at the church. Bob will lie in state at Rouse Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, for those who would like to come by and pay their respects. A Committal Service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 10:00 am, at the Seven Springs Methodist Church Cemetery.

In addition to his mother, Bob is survived by his wife, Donna Vinson Smith; son, Dylan Smith; grandchildren, Carly, Audrey, Bentley, and Reid; siblings, Kaye Smith and Tom Smith; along with many nieces, nephews, aunt, cousins, in-laws, and friends. Bob’s family extended way beyond blood. Bob was preceded in death by his father.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Garris Chapel Children and Youth Program. Bob’s love and care for children continue.
