ShotSpotter Alert Leads Authorities to Shooting Victim

An investigation is ongoing into the shooting in the 500 block of Hinson Street. Goldsboro Police say that on May 2nd, at approximately 12:06 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to an alert from the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system. ShotSpotter alerted to several shots having been fired in the 500 block of Hinson Street.

When officers arrived, they found Carlos Barrett-Zapata, 18, of Goldsboro, in the area suffering from a gunshot wound. Mr. Barrett-Zapata was transported to UNC Health Wayne for treatment and was last known to be in stable condition.

The Goldsboro Police Department Investigative Services Bureau was contacted and responded to the scene. The Investigation is still ongoing and no additional information will be released at this time.
