Pauline Howell Denning

Pauline Howell Denning

April 27, 2023, 83, Goldsboro –

Pauline Howell Denning, 83, finished her course and was received into the presence of her Lord on Thursday, April 27, 2023, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. Pauline was born in Wayne County on March 18, 1940, to the late Paul and Emma Rowe Howell.

Pauline loved reading and wanted to share this passion with others. The joy of reading opened doors to the imagination which could not be explored any other way. She helped to instill this into others through the community reading programs she participated in. Pauline’s job as a librarian allowed her to help in her community. She served as a librarian with the Wayne County Public Library and retired after 18 years of service. During her time, she could be found in the libraries of Pikeville, Fremont, and Goldsboro.

As much as she enjoyed the library, the opportunity to get outside and the garden was a treat. She could grow some of the most beautiful produce and flowers and was more than happy to cook for her family. She was an excellent homemaker and took great pride in making sure everything was done well.

Above all, family was most important to Pauline. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her love was evident in all she did to make sure all were taken care of. She had a way of making them feel special, appreciated, and loved.

Pauline worshiped her Lord at Pleasant Grove O.F.W.B Church, where she was a member. She also served with the Ladies Auxiliary at the church and with Pikeville-Pleasant Grove Fire Department where she was a chaplain. She was willing to help in any way needed. Her kind spirit and her love will be missed.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Pleasant Grove Church followed by a service celebrating Pauline’s life at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Barry Stallings officiating. Interment will be on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Pikeville Cemetery.

Pauline is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, Facie Denning; son, Sheldon Denning; daughter, Karen Baker and husband, Tony; son-in-law, Keith Dale Fisher; grandchildren, Emily Baker Coggins and husband, Tony, Amber Baker Stancil and husband, Daniel and Bradley Keith Fisher and wife, Victoria,; great-grandchildren, Annabelle Kate Coggins, Evelyn Laine Coggins, Weston Blake Stancil and Jameson Rowe Stancil; sister, Pett Hare, and husband, Jay; and niece, Kimberly Lynn Berryman and husband, Richard.
