April 28, 2023, 103, Mount Olive –

Mrs. Hilda Oates Jones, a long-time resident of Kennedy’s Crossroads area, west of Mount Olive, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, April 28, 2023.  She was 103

Mrs. Jones was a native of Sampson County.  She was preceded in death by her husband,  Eddis Lamont Jones, to whom she was married for 61 years; a daughter, Sandra Jones Sasser; her parents, John Martin Oates and Blanche Sutton Oates; seven brothers; and three sisters.

She was a member of Smith Chapel Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Glenda Jones Lane of Goldsboro, and Gail Jones Connell and  Dan Connell,  of Morehead City; another son-in-law, Paul L. Sasser of Mount Olive; four grandchildren, Raymond Dale Overman, Jr. and wife, Jenny, of Fort Mill, SC, Alexander Lehman Sasser and wife, Meredith, of Wilmington, Bradley Eddis Connell, and wife, Robin, of Beaufort, NC, and Duffy Connell Huffman and husband, Bryan, of Beaufort, NC; six great-grandchildren, Catherine Overman, Charlotte Overman, Noah Huffman, Faith Huffman, Mary Ann Connell, and James Connell; along with many nieces, nephews, and their families.

A service of worship and celebration of Hilda’s life will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive on Wednesday, May 3.  Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with services to follow at Noon, followed by burial at Wayne Memorial Park.  Officiating will be the Rev. David Francis.

A special note of thanks is extended to Laura Anderson and the entire staff at Rolling Ridge Assisted Living Center at Newton Grove.  The wonderful care and love that they have shown to Mrs. Jones over the past three years has been greatly appreciated.
