Rally for Joyonna and Stand Against Gun Violence

Rally for Joyonna and Stand Against Gun Violence

The community came together on Sunday to honor the victims of the recent shooting that killed Joyonna Persall and to rally against gun violence. The rally, organized by Operation Unite Goldsboro gave the citizens, lawmakers, and clergy the opportunity to speak out about concerns for the youth and the community.

Operation Unite Goldsboro’s founder, Mark Colebrook, says he feels this feels different because of the community. This is the first time in a long time that feels like the community is ready to do something. This is from the Vigil to City Hall, we haven’t had that before.

Colebrook tells about the kids in the community and their concerns, some are afraid of upcoming events such as prom and graduation. Other speakers like former representative Raymond Smith along with Colebrook are working on creating programming that promotes Safe Space for teens.

Many called for those who know anything about the shooting to come forward including Joyonna Persall’s mother. Colebrook says there are plans to have these rallies often and for however is necessary.
