April 19, 2023, 79, Mount Olive –

William Scott Kornegay, at the age of 79, passed away in the early morning on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.  Scott was a resident of the Beautancus community near Mount Olive.

He was preceded in death by his firstborn child, Victoria Ann Kornegay, who died as an infant; his parents, Isaac F. and Virginia Dare McArthur Kornegay; two sisters, Janie K. Mandeville, and Geraldine K. Harvell; and two brothers, Isaac “Bubba” Kornegay and Charlie Mac Kornegay.

Scottie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rachel K. Kornegay, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Crystal K. Fowler and Creighton Fowler, of Mount Olive, and Anita K. Strickland and Ryan Strickland, of Beulaville; four grandchildren, Victoria F. Gorman and husband, Caleb, of Garner, Colton Wade Fowler of Mount Olive, and Dylan Strickland and Kaleb Strickland, both of Beulaville; a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Elaine Kornegay of Mount Olive; a brother-in-law, George Harvell of Mount Olive; several nieces and nephews, and Rachel’s siblings and their families.

Scott was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the North Duplin Hunting Club.  He also enjoyed softball, both playing and watching the sport.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 22, from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with funeral services to be held at 2:00 p.m.   Officiating will be the Rev. Chris Turner.  Following the service, the burial will take place in Maplewood Cemetery.   Friends are also being received at the residence.
