Summer Youth Employment Program Returns in Wayne County

The Wayne County Summer Youth Employment Program is back, and applications are open for the summer of 2023! This exciting program opens paid work opportunities for high school and college students to learn valuable skills in local government, financial literacy, and workplace training. The application deadline is May 12, 2023, and work will begin on June 19, 2023.

“We are glad to be able to bring this program back for another year,” said Chairwoman Barbara Aycock. “County government has rewarding careers across all of our departments. This program allows local young adults the opportunity to learn more about different careers and earn a paycheck during the summer.”

The Summer Youth Employment Program started as a recommendation from Commissioner Antonio Williams after he joined the Board in 2020. Participants will work across the County in different departments from June 19, 2023, until July 28, 2023.

“This program is important for the kids in our community,” said Commissioner Williams. “Last year was a huge success with students learning various job roles and gaining an appreciation for local government. We look forward to another great group of students joining county departments to learn important skills that will help them later in life. This program provides students with something positive to do during the summer and shows them that there are plenty of job opportunities for them right here at home.”
