David Lee Odom, 74, went to be with his Lord on Monday, April 17, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

David was born in Wayne County on October 26, 1948, to the late David and Ruth Starling Odom. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves.

David lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community. He proudly served the citizens of Goldsboro for nearly 25 years as a dedicated fireman with the Goldsboro Fire Department.

A time of visitation will be held at Seymour Funeral Home on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. followed by a graveside service celebrating David’s life at 4:00 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Andy Stovall officiating.

He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Lou Ellen Gooding Odom; sons, David Michael Odom and Jeffrey “Heavy” Odom; special nephew he loved as a son, Jeremy Scott Worrell; grandchildren, Ashlyn Shae Odom, Summer Danielle Hinson and David Thomas Odom; great-grandsons, Daxton Taylor Hinson and Holton Ray Hinson; sister, Vickie Hill, and husband, Ronnie; brother, Dennis Odom, and wife, Diane; brother-in-law, Billy Gooding; and several nieces he loved very much.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Odom, and sister, Terry Amerine.

We would like to give a very special thank you to his wonderful caregivers for the love and care they provided for David during his declining health. Simple words cannot express our gratitude. Also a special thank you to the caregivers who have done so much for the family including Carol Warren, Nicki Wolfe, Angela Lizak, Katrina Forbes, Tisha Glover, and Billy Collier.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given to the charity of one’s choice.
