In 1952, she married the late John D Atkinson and they resided in Wayne County, North Carolina before moving to Goldsboro, North Carolina. She started her education in Dudley, North Carolina, and continued to pursue her education in Goldsboro, North Carolina. She enjoyed church activities, traveling, and being among family and friends. Her love and kindness transformed lives forever. In 2017, when her health began to fail, she moved to live with her daughter in Woodbridge, Virginia.

Mrs. Alice Earle Cox Atkinson, the only child of the late Earl Frank Cox and Inez Howell Cox, was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on September 5, 1936.
