Charles Benton “Bill” Kennedy, 83, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Wayne County on February 1, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles B. and Nellie Kennedy.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Mozingo Barwick Kennedy.

Bill is survived by his children, Chuck Kennedy of Grantham, Paul Kennedy and wife, Brenda of Florence, SC, and Edie Wise and husband, Chris of Mt. Olive, Danny Barwick and wife, Mary Ann of Calypso; Patricia Whitley and husband, Danny of Goldsboro, Kathy Young of Seven Springs, and Kelly Logan of Goldsboro; his sister, Ruth Thornton and husband, Bill; his aunt, Lou Kearney; nine grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Bill was a 1958 graduate of New Hope High School. He was instrumental in planning and fulfilling the needs of his class reunions. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired after 21 years of service with the rank of Tech Sergeant.

Following his retirement from the Air Force, Bill and Marie owned and operated Commercial Maintenance Incorporated. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Woods Grove Church where he served as a deacon.

In his spare time, Bill enjoyed being outside working in his yard. He also relished time spent with his beloved family.

A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Teague officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to the service from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Edie and Chris Wise.
