Rebecca Moore “Becky” Smith, 80, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by her family. Born in Wayne County on April 23, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Preston and Evelyn Price Moore.
In addition to her parents, Becky was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Moore.
Becky is survived by her husband of 55 years, Luby E. Smith; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Kathie Smith of Clayton and Brian and Lynn Smith of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Amy Coleman, Rebecca Smith, Jacob Smith, and Katie Smith; sisters, Judy Buck of Sunset Beach and Mildred Worrell of Goldsboro; brother, Ronald Moore, and wife, Linda of Cary; and several nieces and nephews.
For many years Becky worked as a legal secretary in the law office of Gene Braswell in Goldsboro. Her radiant smile and friendly demeanor afforded her many friends during her time at the law office.
Becky was an avid writer and had a gift for expressing her thoughts on paper. She compiled a treasured poetry book about her life and her beautiful family.
In years past Becky had been a member of Rosewood First Baptist Church in Rosewood. Most recently she was a member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Goldsboro.
A service to celebrate Becky’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with her pastor, Rev. Bill Rose to officiate. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
