Tommie Forehand Harris, 76, died peacefully Monday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. A native of Wayne County, Tommie was born on February 14, 1947, the youngest of eight girls born to the late Tommy and Maggie Davis Forehand.

Tommie was a lifetime member of Pikeville PFWB Church where members of the church became a second family to her. She enjoyed utilizing her musical talents, which the Forehand girls were known for, singing in the choir. After graduating from Charles B. Aycock High School, Tommie married the love of her life, Larry Harris. From this union came the light of her life, their son Tom. Tommie was employed in customer service with First Citizens Bank for forty-five years. It was her interactions with both customers and employees that enabled her to make lifetime friends that have been everlasting.

A service to celebrate the life of Tommie will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Pikeville PFWB Church with Pastor Mark Whitfield officiating. A private family inurnment will be at a later date in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the service at the church in an informal manner.

Surviving is her husband of 57 years, Larry Harris; her son Tom Harris and his son Brady Harris-Cook; sisters, Louise Daw, Margie Daw, Chris Grimes, and Atha Howell and husband Cleatus; and special friends, Wilburn and Jeannie Rutledge.

In addition to her parents, Tommie was preceded in death by her sisters, Gatha Martin, Juanita Bass, and Gladys Goff, and an infant sister, Esther Marie Forehand.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robbie Hinnant, Gary Mooring, Brent Mooring, Jeff Martin, Todd Grimes, Bill Bass, Jr, and Darrell Howell.
