Rep. Nickel Holds Briefing on Domestic Violence

Last week, U.S. Representative Wiley Nickel (NC-13) held a domestic violence awareness and prevention briefing with actress and activist Thora Birch and advocates on Capitol Hill.

Nickel and Birch were joined by U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) and advocates from the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV), National Domestic Violence Hotline, Futures Without Violence, and Ujima, Inc.

“I’m grateful for the subject matter experts who joined us on Capitol Hill to share their insights and knowledge with us,” said Rep. Nickel. “It’s clear we need to do more to raise awareness and work together to prevent domestic violence and support survivors. This shouldn’t be a partisan or political issue. Let’s work together to prevent domestic violence and support survivors.”

“It was an honor to be in the Capital with Representative Nickel and advocates for this important and sobering discussion,” said actress and activist Thora Birch. “Coming out of the pandemic, it is more pressing than ever to continue to focus on this issue in the areas of raising awareness and strengthening programs with the goal to prevent domestic violence. I look forward to continuing to speak up and be a voice on this issue.”
