The United Way of Wayne County Will Celebrate Volunteers

United Way of Wayne County will celebrate community volunteers on April 18, 2023, at the Paramount Theatre.

The North Carolina Commission on Volunteering and Community Service has completed its selection of the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award recipients. Ten final nominees submitted by Wayne County were selected and will be recognized at the Volunteer Ceremony Celebration at the Paramount Theatre on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 530 pm to 7 pm. Each of the 10 nominees will receive a pin and certificate signed by Governor Roy Cooper. Additionally, all other nominees will also be recognized with a certificate from the United Way of Wayne County.

The Governor’s Volunteer Service Award was created to recognize the significant contributions these individuals make. Any person, group, or entity from the public, non-profit and private sectors may be nominated for an award. Each county may select up to ten individuals, businesses, groups/teams and one paid Director of Volunteers to be recognized for their outstanding contributions to their communities. A local committee evaluates the nominations and selects ten nominees, one of which also gets nominated for the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service, which is awarded to the top 20 volunteers in the state.

This year, United Way of Wayne County wishes to not only put the spotlight on the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award recipients or its nominees but also on all volunteers throughout Wayne County and encourages all nonprofit agencies to invite their volunteers to attend the event intended to highlight them. “We are very grateful to Paramount Theatre Foundation for partnering with us in this event and sharing in our desire to acknowledge the people who make an enormous difference in the lives of our residents”, said Sherry Archibald, Executive Director. “We hope to celebrate each and every Wayne County volunteer every year in an event like this”.
