Lynwood Kenneth Turlington, 64, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 17, 2023, in Augusta, Georgia while visiting his father. Lynwood was born in Clinton, North Carolina to Lynwood Harvey Turlington of Augusta, GA, and Carol Gray of Goldsboro, NC on December 1, 1958.

It was truly Lynwood’s dream to serve his country and fellow man. He proudly served with the United States Coast Guard, retiring in 1997 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His considerable intelligence and impeccable sense of humor combined well with his patriotism make him a perfect fit for the Coast Guard. Through numerous decorations and awards, Lynwood’s valor and skill were justly recognized.

With a great love for Nascar, Lynwood made sure to catch every race, whether in-person or on television. An almost daily trek for Lynwood, he enjoyed his time outdoors wandering for hours walking along the beach. Cruising the roads on his motorcycle was an equal delight only made better by riding along with friends. His dogs were faithful companions, and he loved them just like family.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 24, 2023, from 12:00 – 12:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Lynwood’s life at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Andy Stovall presiding. Interment with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sons, Kenneth Ray Turlington of Glendale, AZ and Jason Paul Turlington of Wendell, NC; daughters-in-law, Laura Michelle Turlington and Jennifer Lyn Turlington; and grandchildren, John Mason Turlington, Kenley Rae Turlington, Ashtan Dow Howell, Emmalyn Taylor Johnson, Haley Anna Hicks, and Ryan Matthew Hicks.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.
