Irma Garris Moore passed away at Wallace Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on Monday, March 20, 2023. Irma was born on May 5, 1936, to the late Barney Jackson Garris Jr and Bertha Wade Garris.

Irma worked until her retirement at RG Barry’s in Goldsboro. It was not in her nature to sit idle. After her retirement, she served as a caregiver and a substitute teacher. Her real joy was found in travel, though. Irma was able to experience many of the wonders of the world in her travels. It didn’t matter if it was by boat or plane, Irma had her bags packed and was ready to go. She remembered her journeys as she collected magnets and spoons from all over the world. She was happiest exploring the world.

Irma attended Zion Methodist Church with her family. When she was able, Irma loved to be outside working in her yard and making sure everything was just as she wanted it to be. If she couldn’t get out, she wanted to make sure a good Western was on the TV. If the TV didn’t have Westerns, then it shouldn’t even be turned on. It wasn’t any good to her.

Irma was a mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She lived her life to the fullest. She will be remembered for her zest for life and her eagerness to experience all God had to see.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 2 pm in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home. Visitation will take place an hour before the service, from 1 pm – 2 pm. Committal will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery in La Grange.

Irma is survived by her sons, Phillip Edward Mozingo (Pamela) and Tracy Warren Mozingo; sister, Edith Ansel; and three grandchildren, John, Lisa, and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her son, John William Mozingo; and brothers, John Garris, Douglas Garris, Earnest Garris, and Earl Garris.
