Wayne County Filled the Theatre

Wayne County, NC – United Way of Wayne County’s Fill the Theatre Food Drive ended with a
roaring success! Our community came out in full force to help support Wayne Uplift Domestic
Violence Shelter, Wayne Pregnancy Center, 4Day Movement, Hydrant Church Food Pantry,
Manna House/Pete Norris Ministries, HGDC Crisis Center, Make a Difference Food Pantry, and
Community Soup Kitchen. This year, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. received a portion of the
donations to support the Childhood Hunger Initiative program to provide 30 meals per week to
Eastern Wayne Middle School. Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack (CHIPP™)
provides weekend and holiday meals for children within local communities.

“At United Way of Wayne County, we believe that a connected community is a strong
community,” said Executive Director Sherry Archibald. “We are happy to be the bridge that
brings people and resources together and ensure that the community’s needs are met with
dignity.

Several businesses, nonprofits, churches, schools, and individuals from around the county
collected non-perishable food items, personal hygiene items, and baby diapers as well as
issued cash or checks and brought their donations out to the Paramount Theatre. This year, the
Wayne County government played a bigger part in supporting the food drive with not only
canned items donated but also fresh produce that was distributed prior to local pantries prior to
the event.
