Charlotte Hicks Peele

Charlotte Hicks Peele

February 16, 2023, 88, Goldsboro –

Charlotte Hicks Peele entered into her eternal reward on Thursday, February 16, 2023. She was born in Wayne County to the late Dortch Allen Hicks and Docia Lane Hicks on August 5, 1934. In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband and the father of her children, Foy “Candy” Peele; husband, Leon Kelly; and sisters, Sally Howell, Maxine Wade, Margaret Haynes, Linda Peacock, and Peggy Holland.

In 1952, Charlotte graduated from Pikeville High School. Charlotte spent 38 years at General Electric until her retirement. After her retirement, she was a member of the TOM Club and continued to nurture those friendships made during her time at GE. When she wasn’t working, you could likely find her in her garden or her yard. Spending time outdoors was always a joy for her and it showed. Her skills continued to develop and she became quite the gardener. Not only could she grow her own food, but she also had a talent for cooking. Charlotte could take almost anything and make a delicious meal out of it. Her family was always well-fed. She took much pride in making sure her family enjoyed the meals she prepared. It was just one of the ways she loved them.

Charlotte served the Lord at Woods Grove PFWB Church. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and use the gifts God had given her for His glory. She was a faithful member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the church. The serving was a way for her to show her love for God. Charlotte was loved by God and she always gave back to Him with all she had.

Above all, the family was most important to Charlotte. She was the oldest of 10 children and was often the mother figure. She had a way of nurturing and caring for those she loved. After her parent’s death, she was considered the matriarch of her family. Her love was shared with her family, her church, and her many friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 20, 2023, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Charlotte’s life at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Barry Teague officiating. The interment will be in the Peele Family Cemetery.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Sharon Fleeman, and husband, Neil of Aiken, SC; son, Mike Peele, and wife, Sandra of Fremont; grandchildren, Ken Grady, Kelly Henry, and husband, Jim, Brian Peele and wife, Tammy, and Brandon Peele and wife, Kelly; great-grandchildren, Hannah Heston, Jackson Whitfield, Tyler Evarts, Allison Peele, Laura Kate Peele, Adrianne Peele, and Spencer Peele; and great-great-grandchildren, Trenton, Brenton, and Axl Heston. She is also survived by her brother, Dortch Hicks, Jr., and sisters, Willie Lewis, Jackie Wampole, and Debbie Alford.
