Brenda Mantooth Mozingo

Brenda Mantooth Mozingo

February 17, 2023, 78, Goldsboro –

Brenda Mantooth Mozingo, 78, peacefully and quietly departed this life on Friday, February 17, 2023, while surrounded by her family at home. She was born in Wilson County to the late Walter M. and Marie Tucker Mantooth on February 18, 1944. In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her siblings: Sara Pate and Millard Mantooth.

Brenda had a special heart for teaching children and watching them learn and grow. Her gifts enabled her to guide many students to success during her 30 years as a teacher at Eastern Wayne Elementary School. She taught the fourth grade and helped shape many of the lives of those who came through her doors.

One of her treasured memberships was to her Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. This membership afforded her the opportunity to join other women in education. She also enjoyed the fellowship with the women of the Goldsboro Woman’s Club. And she served as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Belfast Fire Department. The Auxiliary was even more special because it allowed her to support her husband who served in the Fire Department.

Brenda worshiped and served the Lord as an active member of Salem United Methodist Church. She was faithful in serving in the ministries which allowed her to use her gifts and talents.

What Brenda valued the most was her relationship with her husband and her family. Brenda and I.J. built quite the life in their 57 years, a legacy that will carry on. She loved being a Mother and Geema. This was something she did not take for granted.

A service to celebrate Brenda’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2023, at Salem United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends Monday following the service in Salem Hall.

Brenda is survived by her husband, I.J. Mozingo; daughters, Angela Thorne and husband, Steven of Goldsboro and Karla Smith of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Andrew Thorne and wife, Brittney, Charleigh Smith, Cameron Smith, Emily Thorne, and Channing Smith; and several nieces and nephews she loves very much including Mike Pate, whom she loved as if he was her brother.

The family would like to thank Community Hospice for the special care they provided for Brenda over the last year. And a special thank you to two special caregivers, Hazel Wiggins and Angie Hooks who were amazing during the last few weeks. We could not have done this without you. You were truly a blessing to all of us.
