February 14, 2023, 67, Goldsboro –

Margey Crawford Smith, age 67, succumbed to a recent and aggressive bile duct cancer that claimed her life on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2023. She was born to Earle Denning and Margaret Mitchell Crawford on May 14, 1955, both deceased. Her older brother, preceded her in death, in 1996.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, the Reverend Danny M. Smith; her daughter, Colleen Warrick & husband, Andrew; her son, Daniel Smith & wife, Beth; her only grandchild, Wyatt Andrew Warrick. She also leaves behind two beloved siblings, Lisa Searle and Jonathan Crawford, niece, and nephew respectively; plus a sister-in-law, Barbara McFatter.

After a courtship of two years, she entered into holy matrimony, on September 6, 1980.  Under the ministry of her husband, she joined the Original Free Will Baptist Church and as a pastor’s wife, served four area congregations during a 40-year span. As a secretary/bookkeeper, she was employed at Sandhill Gas Company, Aaron Smith Chevrolet of Mount Olive, and AST Trucking Company of Goldsboro. In addition, she was a floral designer for Pinewood Florist for over 12 years.

During her life, she was active in several lady’s civic groups, but her greatest pride was being involved in the seasonal Wayne Regional Fair. She, her mother and later her daughter were directors of the Girl Scout exhibits. Margey was an ambassador for scouting, having earned the Golden Award. Competitive by nature, she usually brought home ribbons, especially first place in pies.

Services to remember her life will be held February 17, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at Providence Methodist Church with the Reverend Dennis Pollock officiating. Visitation will be held afterward at the church. A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
