Almond Phillips Miller

Mrs. Almond Phillips Miller, native of Calypso and long-time Mount Olive resident, passed away Friday night, February 10, 2023, in Greenville at the home of her older daughter.  She was 91.

Mrs. Miller had been employed with Southern Bank and Trust Company.  She was a member of Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Church where she worked diligently in all capacities of church service.  Included in her participation were a Sunday school teacher, nursery attendant, vacation Bible school assistant, the Get-Together Club, a choir member, ladies auxiliary member, and a member of the benevolence team.  While each of her children was in school, she was also a class mother whose presence was on field trips.  She was very active in the activities of her children as they were involved in various things.

Mrs. Miller is survived by four children, Rhonda M. Ashby and husband, Sid, of Greenville, Johnny Miller, and wife, Star, of Holden Beach, Phil Miller and wife, Barbara, of Wake Forest, and Tonya M. Jenkins and husband, David, of Garner; grandchildren, Todd Miller of Mount Olive, Leigh Miller Butler and husband, Reid, of Clinton, Tracie Miller Champion and husband, Robert, of Wake Forest, John Ashby and wife, Katie, of Greenville, Sidney Ashby  Gorham, and husband, Jonathan, of Falkland, Jordan Jenkins and Victoria Jenkins, both of Garner; great-grandchildren, Alexis Miller, Dylan Miller, Ryan Miller and wife, Jenna, Caroline Butler, and Grayson Butler; two sisters, Cecille Best and husband, Bobby, of Mount Olive, and Gladys Baker and husband, Bill, of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Miller; a grandson, Chris Miller; her father, George Phillips; her mother, Lula Johnson Phillips Kornegay; step-father, Jule Kornegay; brother, William Philips, and sister-in-law Claire Phillips.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 15, beginning at 1 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m.   Officiating will be the Rev. Bryan Wheeler.  Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.  Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to Northeast Church co Geoffrey Merritt, 201 Ramblewood Drive, Mount Olive, NC 28365, or to a local program to benefit Alzheimer’s disease.

The Miller family appreciates the phenomenal care provided by Amedisys Hospice staff, and also that provided by her caregiver and best friend, Jennifer Godley.
