Linwood Oliver Smith

February 3, 2023, 74, Goldsboro –

Linwood Oliver Smith, 74, entered his eternal home with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his family on Friday, February 3, 2023. Linwood was born in Wayne County to the late Oliver Wendell Smith and Dixie Sullivan Smith on March 24, 1948.

Retiring after 27 years of service with T.A. Loving Company, he finished his career as the Vice President of Safety. After retirement, he began assisting his son, Jeremy, with his company JSmith Civil as an advisor, recruiter, and friend. Loyal to all, Linwood made you feel like he was there for you and would do anything in the world for you and your family.

A member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge #340 A.F. & A.M. in Pikeville, NC, he was also a Shriner. Serving his community, he sat on the Advisory Board of Cry Freedom Missions in Goldsboro. Linwood was a strong Christian who was ordained as an Original Free Will Baptist deacon.

With a love for the beach, time spent in Morehead City was always a treat. Though work was his main hobby, any time spent with his family was cherished. None could compare to his grandchildren, for they were truly his greatest blessing.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at The First Church, 1100 The First Church Road, Goldsboro, NC. A service to celebrate Linwood’s life will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Rev. Al Warrick and Rev. Gary Bailey officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, in Wayne Memorial Park.

Linwood is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jewel Adams Smith; sons, Jeremy Adam Smith and wife, Tina Woods Smith, and Brandon Oliver Smith; grandchildren, Addison Jewel Smith, Holden Oliver Smith, and Josie Anne Smith; sister-in-law, Barbara Adams Davenport; brother-in-law, Jimmy Lewis Adams; and several cousins that he loved very much.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Linwood’s memory to Cry Freedom Missions, P.O. Box 1235, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
