Mrs. Lettie Pate Barwick, 80, of Summerlin’s Crossroads, Mount Olive, passed away early Friday, Feb. 3, at ECU Healthcare in Greenville following injuries from a fall.

Mrs. Barwick was a pillar in the Summerlin’s Crossroads community as she quietly served her family, church, and fellow man.  She had been employed as an insurance clerk, first at Duplin General Hospital, and later at Goshen Medical Center, from which she retired.  She was a life-long member of Rooty Branch Free Will Baptist Church and had been its long-time treasurer.  She also led an active role with Oak Wolfe Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Visitation will be Monday, February 6, from 6 until 8 p.m. at ROOTY BRANCH CHURCH.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 7, at 2 p.m. at TYNDALL FUNERAL HOME, and will be officiated by her long-time pastor, the Rev. Mickey Whitfield.  Burial will follow in the Jimmy Barwick Family Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to Rooty Branch Church, c/o Mrs. Frederick Rouse, 1835 Red Hill Road, Albertson, NC 28508, or to Oak Ridge Community Building Fund, c/o Mrs. John Sullivan, 211 John Lewis Grady Road, Mount Olive, NC 28365

Mrs. Barwick is survived by her children, James A. “J.B .” Barwick, Jr. of Summerlin’s Crossroads, Lori Barwick of Summerlin’s Crossroads, and Ronald “Trigger” and Jennifer Rose Barwick, of Beautancus; two grandchildren, Blake Barwick and friend, Harley Powell, and Emma Rose Barwick Smith; great-grandchildren, Granger James Smith and Ella Rose Smith; a sister, Cathy Pate Rouse of Albertson; several special in-laws from the Barwick family as well as several nieces and nephews.  Also left behind are two beloved doggie companions, Sadie and Max.

Loved ones who have preceded her in death include her husband, James Arthur “Jimmy” Barwick; her parents, J. Willard Pate and Emma Louis Summerlin Pate; and a little brother, John Burton Pate.
