Dewey Lee Powell, Sr. age 72, passed away Thursday evening. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late James Robert and Madge Sutton Powell.  Dewey loved his family, farming, and the land.  Dewey also enjoyed doing mechanic work.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 5, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 – 1:45 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.

Dewey is survived by his wife, Janet Stallings Powell; two sons, Dewey Lee Powell, Jr., and Corey Brandon Powell; brothers, Joseph Irvin Powell, Sr. (Margie, deceased) and Willie Ray Powell (Carolyn); sisters, Doris Powell Cherry, Sally Powell Hodgin (George, deceased); special fur baby, Bree Lee.

In addition to his parents, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, he was preceded in death by brothers, James Robert Powell (Arlene), John David Powell (Margaret Esther), and Alan Curtis Powell (Elizabeth); sisters, Sandra Powell Foss (Ronnie) and Margaret Powell Wells (Jerry).
