Rommie O’Neal Hill, 86, a lifelong resident of the White Flash Community in northern Duplin County, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at Wayne UNC Healthcare. 

Visitation with the Hill Family will be at Tyndall Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 6 until 8 p.m.  At other times, family and friends are welcome to call at the Hill residence.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home.  Officiating will be the Rev. Kelvin Coates and the Rev. Terry Coates.  Burial will follow the service at Long Ridge Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Rommie was a member of the 1955 graduating class of B. F. Grady High School.  A lifelong farmer, he also worked with Coastal Plains Insurance Company as a crop insurance agent for many years.  He had served in the North Carolina National Guard for a span of 13 years and was a founding member of the Pleasant Grove Volunteer Fire Department from which he retired after serving as assistant chief among other duties.  An avid hunter who loved the outdoors, Rommie was a member of the Duplin-Onslow Hunters Association and the National Pen Association.  He was a member of the Long Ridge Free Will Baptist Church.

Having been preceded in death by his parents, John D. Hill and Elvia Waters Hill, a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Barbara S. Hill, Rommie is survived by his wife, Edith Burton Hill; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise H. and Junior Howard; a son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Donna S. Hill; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John Lloyd and Betsy Hill, and Herman and Kathy Hill, all of the White Flash community; grandchildren, Ryan Howard and husband, Randy Howard, Josh Hill and wife, Olivia Hill, Kyle Howard, Allison Brooke Hill Blizzard and husband, Troy Blizzard, and Tray Howard and wife, Tonya Howard; great-grandchildren, Boone O’Neal Hill, Navy Brooks Blizzard, Meghan Buck, Kody Buck, and Jameson Howard; a niece and honorary granddaughter, Logan Hill Schaefer, her husband, Brian, and their son, Noah;  other nieces and nephews, and many friends and hunting buddies.
