January 31, 2023, 79. Dobbersville –

Luther Albert Wise, known to many as Oochie Wise, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 31, 2023, at ECU Health Care in Greenville.  This Dobbersville area resident was 79 years of age.

Mr. Wise was retired from N.C. Natural Gas for which he was employed for 48 years.  He had attended Friendly Holiness Church, and he enjoyed gardening and growing fresh vegetables to distribute throughout the community.

Preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Giddens Wise; his parents, Ivey and Letha Darden Wise;  a brother, Eggbert Wise; and Sandra’s three brothers, Larry Giddens, Johnny Wayne Giddens, and Ray Giddens,  Oochie is survived by his children and their spouses, Donna W. and Blake Strickland of Mount Olive, Chris and Bonnie Wise of Dunn, and Randy and Starr Wise of Beulaville; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Helen Wise of Mount Olive; a sister, Lillie W. Holland of Dudley; another sister-in-law, Kaye S. Wise of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Ashley Grady and husband, Kenny, Heather Hall and husband, Craig, Britt Daughtry and husband, Trey, Luke Wise, Megan Kornegay and husband, Cameron, Madison Fussell and husband, Zack, and Makenzie Lewis and husband, Wesley; great-grandchildren, Channing Grady, Easton Grady, Aiden Hall, Ava Hall, Karlee Hall, Anslee Hall, and Max Kornegay.  Also, surviving are Sandra’s sisters, Kaye Thornton, and her husband, Don, Jo Ann Thornton and her husband, Bobby, and Lisa Whitfield and her husband, Raeford, all from the Newton Grove area.

Visitation with the Wise family will take place Friday night February 3, from 6 until 8 p.m., and at other times at the Wise residence.  Funeral services will be Saturday, February 4, at 1 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with burial following at Wayne Memorial Park.
