Carl Herbert Croom, 69, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at UNC Lenoir Health Care. Born in Lenoir County on October 26, 1953, he was the son of the late John Herbert Croom, Jr. and Letha Mae Gurganus Croom.

Carl was a staple in the local Deaf community. Carl was a member of Blended Fellowship in Pikeville. Carl could often be seen volunteering at church as a handyman. He was a quick learner. He could be shown something one time and would be able to complete the task with ease. Volunteering and helping others brought so much joy to Carl’s life. Along with volunteering at church, he also volunteered often at the Deaf Club in Kinston, NC, as well as Camp Dogwood sponsored by The Lion’s Club.

A memorial service to celebrate Carl’s life will be held on February 18, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Blended Fellowship. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.

Carl is survived by his wife, Irene Sears Croom; son, Kent Croom and wife, Gwen; grandchildren, Jayden Patterson and Mary Jane Croom; sister, Shirley Anne; half-brother, William Earl; and half-sister Annis O’Quinn; and nephew, Rudy Croom and special friend, Cameron Wade.
