Danny Strickland, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at UNC Wayne. Danny was born on February 1, 1952, to Major Strickland and Lucille Potts Strickland in Wayne County.

Danny found the most joy when he was holding a fishing pole and waiting for the next bite. He wasn’t picky over where he fished as long as he could get out on the water. He passed on this love to his children, spending most every Sunday during their childhood finding somewhere to fish. He also enjoyed spending time as his kids were growing up playing sports and generally just being outdoors. Baseball in the cow pasture was always full of fun and laughter.

Danny had quite the talent for working with his hands to build. When it came to construction, he wanted everything just right. Quality in his work was something he took great pride in. He spent many years sharing his talents at Eastern Aluminum Company.

Something he learned from his mother was the skill of cooking. He enjoyed grilling over charcoal, this was always his first choice. He could also make soups and desserts too. Even when he was limited in what he could eat, he made food for his family.

A Service of Remembrance for Danny will be held privately.

Danny is survived by his children, Michelle Strickland Hawkins (Shea Evans) and Danny Strickland, Jr (Jane); grandchild, Austin Lancaster (Abby Phillips); great-grandchild, Brenden Keeter; a special little girl who is very much a part of the family, Bella Ramirez; sister-in-law, Edna Strickland; along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Major and Lucille, Danny was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Strickland and Edward Strickland.
