Mrs. Valerie Butterfly Frizzell was born on April 14, 1963, to Eileen Jackson and Walter James in Newark, New Jersey. She departed her earthly life on January 5, 2023, in Clayton, New Mexico. Valerie moved to North Carolina from New Jersey in 1994. Valerie made North Carolina her home for the next 24 years until she relocated to Clayton, New Mexico, in 2018. While living in Goldsboro, North Carolina, she met Melvin Frizzell, and they were married in 2008. Butterfly was also a mother to her two sons, Anthony Jackson of North Carolina and Romel (Amanda) Jackson of New Mexico. She was also a stepmother to Melvin’s 11 children. In North Carolina, she was a loving grandma to her “5 Heartbeats” Cameron, Imari, Jamaal,
Sinciera and Na’Kiahya. Valerie made many memories with her brothers and her sister. Ronald (Tracey) Jackson of New Jersey, Andrea Uzzell of North Carolina, Dr. Winston (Andrea) Jackson of New Jersey, and TyQuan Singleton of North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her brother Keith Jackson. Butterfly also leaves behind: Aunt, Sheila Ford of New Jersey and uncle, Joseph Jackson of New Jersey. Cousins, Claude (Yvonne) Jones of New Jersey, Elder Patti Jones of New Jersey, and Dr. Phyllis (Leon) Coleman of New York. Six nephews, Michael Jackson, Antoine Jackson, Keith Jackson, Kevin Turner, Haneff Wofford, and Aiden Singleton. Three nieces, Telisa Jackson, Amaurianna Singleton, and Medina Wofford. Special friends that always kept her laughing, Angela Faison, Yvette Russell, and Trabug Kornegay all of North Carolina. Mother-in-law, Clara Mae Dail of North Carolina. Eight great nieces and 12 great nephews. Pastor Hilario Perez of First Baptist Church in Clayton, New Mexico, and a host of other relatives and friends.

There will be a Public Viewing observed on Saturday from 12 until 1 PM at the Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors, 401 N. William St., Goldsboro, NC 27530. A Triumphant Celebration of her Life and Legacy will convene at the hour of 1 PM until 2 PM. Repast will be at 701 S. George St., Goldsboro, NC 27530.
