January 11, 2023, 80, Snow Hill –

Mrs. Sandra Hamm Dawson, age 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Greendale Forest Nursing and Rehab in Snow Hill. A native of Greene County, she was born August 11, 1942, the daughter of Walton and Annie Laurie Ham.

Following graduation from high school, Sandra soon married Billy Farrell Dawson, Sr. and they made their home in Goldsboro. She worked in the banking industry for many years beginning with First Citizens Bank and ultimately retiring as a Banker with BB&T. Following the death of her husband in 2010 and as her own health began to decline, Sandra relocated to Greene County where she resided until her death.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sandra was preceded in death by her sister, Ann H. Vick; and brothers, Marshal Hamm and Kenneth Hamm.

Her surviving family includes her three sons, Billy Farrell Dawson, Jr. of Snow Hill, Walton Bradley Dawson of Pikeville, and Joseph Brian Dawson of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Hannah Dawson, Peyton Dawson, Taylor Dawson, and Steven Dawson; sisters, Betty H. Hardy of Raleigh and Diane H. Barbour (Larry) also of Raleigh; a brother, Stuart A. Hamm of Snow Hill; and several nieces and nephews of the Hamm and Dawson families.

Funeral services will be held graveside at 2 PM Sunday, January 15th, at Evergreen Cemetery in Goldsboro with Pastor Michael Hamm officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Community Hospice, and especially Gloria and Leslee, for the care and compassion shown to Sandra in her last days.
