A section of a major Goldsboro route will temporarily close this weekend for drainage improvements.
Contract crews plan to close North Berkeley Boulevard (U.S. 13) near the U.S. 70 Bypass from 5 a.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Monday to upsize a drainage pipe underneath the pavement.
A detour will send drivers onto the U.S. 70 Bypass, Wayne Memorial Drive and Tommy’s Road.
The work is part of a contract by the N.C. Department of Transportation to improve the alignment of the boulevard’s nearby intersection with Hood Swamp Road.
Hood Swamp Road currently intersects U.S. 13 on an angle; the road will be realigned, so that it intersects U.S. 13 perpendicularly to improve driver visibility. The intersection improvement is underway and expected to be completed by summer 2023.
