Lillie Faircloth Best

Lillie Faircloth Best

December 23, 2022, 89, Goldsboro –

Lillie Faircloth Best, 89, exchanged her earthly life for the splendor of seeing her Lord face-to-face on Friday, December 23, 2022. Lillie was born in Wayne County to the late John and Clara Mooring Faircloth on January 3, 1933. The oldest of four children, Lillie helped her mother maintain a household until she remarried Nathan Potter.

As a member of Daniels Chapel Church for many years, she faithfully served her Lord as a communion steward and children’s Sunday school teacher. In later years, she became the teacher of the Senior Adult Sunday school class and was also active in the United Methodist Women. Fifth Sundays were a chance for her to attend worship in her home community at Saulston United Methodist Church. Whether in fellowship with the Senior group at Saulston, attending service at either church or teaching at Daniels Chapel, she looked forward to every opportunity to gather with fellow believers.

Constant support to her husband, Lillie worked tirelessly to help him achieve success in his farming business on Best Road and later in the Saulston community. For her tremendous efforts and great commitment to farming, she was recognized as an Outstanding Woman in Agriculture by the Wayne County Extension Service. Outside of the home and farm, she was always an active member of the Home Extension Club and the Wayne County Farm Bureau.

Dedicating her time to service others, Lillie volunteered for many years in the labor and delivery room at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was also active with the Wayne Community College Foundation by sponsoring scholarships and serving on the board of the Karl M. Best Agriculture Leadership Program. Offering a helping hand and serving her community was attributes that were a natural part of Lillie’s being.

With an eye for beauty, Lillie loved decorating her home for each season. Christmas was a most special time in which she enjoyed adorning her home with celebrations of the Savior’s birth.

Known to many as an excellent cook, Lillie’s table was open to all. Whether in her own home or at various church functions, friends and family were blessed by her delicacies. Of the many meals she shared with others, among the best were her chicken pastry, fried chicken, chicken salad and pound cake.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, in Wayne Memorial Park. Friends and family are also welcome to visit the family home.

Lillie is survived by her son, Johnny Best and wife, Sue of Goldsboro; daughter, Myra Best of Raleigh; granddaughter, Jaime Best Jones and husband, Randy; great-grandchildren, Ben Jones and Autumn Renee Smith; and brother, Gayle Potter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Karl M. Best; mother, Clara Potter; step-father, Nathan Potter; grandsons, Matthew Coe Smith and Jared Austin Smith; and siblings, Jean Coker, Thomas “Buddy” Gurley, Ramona Gurley Matthews, Nathalian Potter, Grey Carr, Hilda Smith, Frances Potter, Nathan Potter, Jr. and Malcolm Potter.
