James William “Jim” Smith, Jr., 90, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Wayne County on November 18, 1932, he was the son of the late James William Smith, Sr. and Eba Cogdell Smith.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Betsy S. Howard and her husband, Bill.

Jim is survived by his wife of seventy years, Ann Carol Smith; son, James W. Smith, III; daughter, Cheryl Ann Smith Denny; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Goldsboro.

Jim and Ann were the owners of Nelson’s Photo for more than thirty years. He also worked as a finance manager.

A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor David Linton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
