James Ray Mitchell, 72, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Wayne UNC Health Care in Goldsboro. Born in Wayne County on December 3, 1950, he was the son of the late Herbert Mitchell and Effie Anderson Mitchell.

Ray was one of a kind. He was skillful and worked hard to get the job done. Ray was not shy about giving his opinion but truly cared for others. This was most evident in the love he had for his mama. Ray sought to enjoy his life to the fullest, and he did just that. At the end of his life, he drew his last breath in peace surrounded by family, knowing he had given it all and looking forward to what God had planned for him in eternity.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Emmaus Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the committal at the cemetery.
