Mary Howell Woodard, 92, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Born and raised in Wayne County, Mary was the daughter of the late Albert Howell and Emma Elizabeth Sasser Howell. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Daniel Woodard; brothers, Robert Howell, Dallas Howell, and George Howell; and sisters, Annie Best and Betty Hall.

For many years, Mary worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell. After working with the phone company, she was a secretary at Wayne Memorial Hospital until her retirement. Even after her retirement from the hospital, Mary worked in childcare for several years. She was a faithful member of the Faith Church in Goldsboro. Mary stayed active well into her 80s traveling and gardening. Family was paramount in her life, and she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 2 PM in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 PM until 2 PM. Burial will follow the service at Willow Dale Cemetery.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Sandy O’Brian and husband, Michael; son, Danny Woodard, and wife, Becky; grandchildren, Jessica Adams and Max Woodard; great-grandchildren Evangeline Adams, Lazarus Adams, Lennon Adams, and Gideon Adams; sister Patricia Pelt and many nieces and nephews.

Flowers are welcomed, or memorials may be sent to Faith Church at 1200 W Grantham St, Goldsboro, NC 27530 in memory of Mary.
