Peggy Jones Huggins

November 28, 2022, 75, Kinston –

April 29, 1947 – November 28, 2022

Peggy Jones Huggins passed away, surrounded by family, on Monday, November 28, 2022, at ECU Health Medical Center. Peggy was born on April 29, 1947, to the late Lawrence Hardy Jones and Nora Sumner Jones. She was married to the late Samuel Vernon Huggins.

Peggy was the epitome of a mother. She was kind, thoughtful, loving, and caring. It was always a good day when she was surrounded by her family. One of her greatest joys was to prepare a delicious, home-cooked meal and watch all of her loved ones gathered around the table. She wasn’t one to sit down to eat. This way, she could make sure everyone had what they needed. There was no reason to go hungry at Peggy’s home. This not only goes for her children and grandchildren, it also goes for her beloved “fur grandbabies” as well. It was extra special to sit at Peggy’s table enjoying some of her family’s favorites. From spaghetti to chili to her special hummingbird cake, everything was a hit.

Peggy always made sure her family was cared for in all aspects, but in no way was she a pushover. She was short but mighty, with a bit of a feisty streak if needed. It helped to keep her family in line. You never had to wonder what Peggy was thinking, you only needed to ask.

Family was always first in her life and this also included her siblings and her cousins. She talked to her sister on a daily basis and looked forward to the annual cousin weekend. In her quiet time, she used her craftiness to create many beautiful creations – from sewing to knitting to painting. For Peggy, an afternoon of watching Hallmark movies and drinking coffee made for a beautiful time. Peggy’s incredible love will truly be missed.

A Graveside Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, at the cemetery of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, Hwy 55, Seven Springs, NC at 11 am. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.

Peggy is survived by her children, Larry Huggins (Wendy) and Emaly Huggins-Bergeron (Jimmy); grandchildren, Austin Huggins, Allie Huggins, Kristin Nicole Massey, Michael Massey, Jr, and Alec Ray Bergeron; four great-grandchildren; siblings, James Hardy Jones and Crystal Rouse (Herbert); along with many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
