UPDATE:
On November 29th, 2022, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the North Carolina
State Medical Examiner’s Office that the human remains found on Sunday afternoon, November
27th, 2022, have been positively identified as 25-year-old Gabriel Brody Carter. The Sheriff’s
Office has been actively searching for Gabriel Brody Carter since he was reported missing on
October 21st, 2022. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Gabriel Brody Carter’s
death is ongoing, and the Sheriff’s Office is waiting to hear back from the Medical Examiner’s
Office for the cause of death.
Original Release:
On Sunday, November 27, 2022, at around 4:13 pm, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was notified of human remains located in the 400 block of Billy Price Road, Seven Springs, NC. The
remains were located by a volunteer search team who had convened in the area. At this time, no
positive identification has been made, and the remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy, positive identification, and cause of death. Wayne County Sheriff’s
Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the area where the remains were located
and have begun their investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, Detectives have
found nothing that leads them to believe foul play is involved. This investigation is ongoing at
this time, and more information will be released upon positive identification.
