Alton Wayne Edwards, 74, was received into the loving arms of his Savior on Tuesday afternoon at UNC Health Wayne.

Wayne was born May 18, 1948, in Wilson County to the late Amos L. and Louise Watkins Edwards. He was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church. Since 1967, Wayne was a founding partner and worked as a mechanic and machinist with the family business, Edwards Truck Service.

Wayne and his late wife, Viola married early in their lives and grew up together, sharing fifty-three wonderful years. A Mason since 1990, Wayne was a member and past Master of Wayne Masonic Lodge 112. A member of the Wayne County Shrine Club since 1991, Wayne and Viola were fixtures at the Wayne County Shrine Club, making many trips together visiting children at the Shriners Hospital or attending various Shrine ceremonies. Wayne was a past Potentate for the Sudan Shrine Temple. Family was paramount to Wayne, he loved any opportunity to spend time with those he loved.

A service to celebrate the life of Wayne Edwards will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Falling Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Ellis and Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. Interment with full Masonic Rites follows in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at Wayne’s home.

Wayne is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn E. and Mark Owens; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Tracy Edwards; grandsons, Brandon Herring, Josh Edwards, and fiancée, Kristian Marlowe, and Justin Edwards (Morgan Radford); his special rose, Rose Peedin; siblings, Dennis Edwards (Robin), Dianne E. Brock, Danny Edwards (Shana), and Donnie Edwards (Tricia); sister-in-law, Patsy Edwards; his canine companions, Charlie and Frannie; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Tedder Edwards; his brother, Preston Edwards; and brother-in-law, Bobby Brock, Jr.
