Johnathan Steadman “Johnny” Whitley, Jr. peacefully passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022. Johnny was born in Wayne County to the late Johnathan Steadman Whitley, Sr., and Pattie Varnell Whitley Mozingo on January 12, 1949. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Kenneth Whitley, Wilma Ann Seabrook, Agnes Bartlett, and William Whitley; and his in-laws, Edward Thigpen and Betty K. Thigpen.

As owner and operator of Whitley’s Restaurant Maintenance in La Grange for 20-plus years, Johnny traveled the east coast doing what he loved—working. He could be found in his shop always getting things ready for his next job.

Johnny had a heart of gold and would do anything to help anyone at any time. He spoiled Kay and Johnathan and was always supportive of any ideas they had. Above all, he just wanted them to be happy.

He was proud of his service to our country in the military, serving in the Marine Corps, where he exited as a Sergeant.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at Rouse Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2022. The family will receive friends following the service.

Johnny leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Kay Thigpen Whitley; son, Johnathan Edward Whitley and wife, Brooke; 2 grandsons, Spencer Keith Corey and John Michael Whitley; sister-in-law, Carol Whitley; brothers-in-law, Roy Bartlett and Darrell Thigpen and friend, Phyllis Harrison; along with many nieces and nephews.
