Bobbie Jean Southerland Swinson, 94, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. Born in Wayne County on July 23, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Robert Southerland and Bessie Walker Southerland.

Bobbie was a graduate of Campbell University and played on their basketball team. She later worked as a claims adjustor for Combined Insurance. For many years, Bobbie was the bookkeeper for her husband’s company, Tarheel Landscaping and Tree Service. She enjoyed going to church and visiting with friends and neighbors. She cherished time with her husband and family more than anything else. Some of her favorite pastimes were working in her garden, planting flowers in the yard, and watching the birds from her back porch. She also liked vacationing by the sound in Swansboro, NC.

Bobbie loved the Lord and loved people and encouraged everyone around her to do the same.

A service to celebrate Bobbie’s life will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at 2 P.M. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The family will receive friends the hour prior, from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at the Grady Family Cemetery.

Bobbie is survived by her loving husband David Walton Swinson; sons, David Kent Swinson and wife, Brenda, and Robert Walton Swinson; grandchildren, Carmen Swinson Young and Brandi Swinson; great-grandchildren, Garrett, AJ, Mariam, and Izzy; sisters, Georgia Lee Teachey and Lerlene Deans.

In addition to her parents, Bobbie is preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Coor; and a brother, Robert Southerland.
