November 3, 2022, 86, Princeton –

James Raeford Massey, Sr., 86, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 3, 2022.  He was born in Johnston County on July 23, 1936, to the late Charles Patrick and Lela Ingram Massey.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Howell Massey.  In addition to his parents and wife, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Massey, Donnie Massey, and a sister, Helen Butts.

Mr. Massey has been a member of Hephzibah Baptist Church since 1962.  He enjoyed gardening, beekeeping, growing sugar cane to make homemade syrup, woodworking, and carpentry.  Most of all he loved his family.

He is survived by his second wife, Clarissa Dail Massey; sons, Jamie Massey of Princeton and Michael Massey and wife, Debbie of Smithfield; stepson, Rodolph King of Beaufort; brother, Jerry Massey; sister, Margaret Wiggs, Betty Dale Martin, Jessie Smith, and JoAnn Creech; grandchildren, Erica Edwards (Josh), Todd Massey (April), Sam Massey, Sarah Massey (Fiancé, Cody) and Ben Massey; great-grandchildren, Hope Massey, Eli Edwards, Ethan Massey, and Sonny Edwards; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 6, 2022, from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm at Casey Funeral Home and Cremations.

The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at Casey Funeral Home and Cremations Chapel with the Pastor Todd Massey officiating.  A private entombment will be on Monday, November 7, 2022, at Hephzibah Baptist Church.
