William Ray Pope peacefully passed away in the early hours of Friday, October 28, 2022. He was born to the late James William and Mavis Thorne Pope in Johnston County on February 23, 1945.

Nothing held more prominence in Ray’s life than the love and care for his family. He took an interest in the life of each of them, and their love for him was a mere reflection of the affection they received from him.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Howard James officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

Ray is survived by his wife, Kathy Gurley Pope; son, David Pope and wife, Kim of Jacksonville; step-daughter, Missey Runyon, and husband, Leo of Goldsboro; sister, Judy Holland of Kenly; one grandchild and five step-grandchildren.
