October 28, 2022, 75, Grantham –

Mrs. Frances Britt Thornton, 75, of the Manley’s Grove area in the Grantham community, left her disease-stricken body to behold the presence of her Lord and Saviour late Friday afternoon, October 28, 2022.

Mrs. Thornton was a long-time member of Manley’s Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church where she sang in the choir.  She had been employed with Sylvania in Smithfield, and later with Bussman’s of Goldsboro, as well as being an excellent homemaker, a wonderful cook, and a great neighbor and friend to those around her.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Thornton Mooring of the Grantham community; two grandchildren who dearly loved their Granny, Jordan Blake Mooring of Rosewood and Alexis Grace Mooring of the Grantham community; a brother, W. L. Britt of La Grange; special friends of the family, Brian Keith Ellis of Rosewood, and his son, Jared Ellis of Raleigh; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many friends.

Loved ones who preceded her in death include her husband, Phillip “Phil” Carlton Thornton; her son, Phillip Carlton “Carl” Thornton, Jr.; her parents, Theodore Roosevelt Britt and Ludie Jernigan Britt; sisters, Mary Ellen Britt and Edna Earle Sutton; and brother, Ellis “Jim” Britt.

Visitation will be at Tyndall Funeral Home on Monday, October 31, from 6 until 8 p.m.  Services will be Tuesday, November 1, at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, and will be officiated by the Rev. Donald Massey.  Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.   Family and friends are also being received at the home of Mrs. Frances Thornton.  Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to
