Christy LaMastus Smith passed away peacefully at Kitty Askins Hospice Center on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Christy was born January 3, 1948, to the late Durward Odell LaMastus and Lara Eryne May Allen LaMastus in Memphis, TN.
Christy had a special gift as a seamstress. She spent her entire life sewing amazing creations for her family, her community, and her church. Christy had an eye for creating beauty from raw materials. She had a vision of what simple scraps could become, and then made it happen. This was her way of sharing love with those around her. One of her special projects was donating her quilts to the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home in Middlesex for their graduating seniors. She also created costumes for the NL Drama Club and the dinner theatre at her church. She was an artist with a quilting needle and her love drew people to her. Christy also spent time as a bank teller in La Grange where she was able to speak to her community and share her kindness.
Christy was introduced to the love of her life, Horace Dennis Smith, over 48 years ago. They made quite the team and she loved to care for him. She was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman to her husband. She was kind, compassionate, and loving. Horace knew he had been gifted with an amazing wife and he did not take that for granted.
Christy worshiped her Lord and Savior at La Grange First Free Will Baptist Church. She found her place there and was able to share her gifts and talents with her church family.
A Memorial Service will be held at La Grange First Free Will Baptist Church on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at 3 pm.
Christy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Horace Dennis Smith; sisters, Billie Ruth Cocke of TN, Kathy Seay of KY, Betty Sanders of MS, and Monica LaMastus of FL; sister-in-law, Mary Frances Kennedy of La Grange; brother-in-law, James Allen Smith (Betty Jean) of Goldsboro; and many special friends in the community.
