Retha Ellen Carter Hill

Retha Ellen Carter Hill

September 22, 2022, 81, Pikeville –

Retha Ellen Carter Hill departed this life on September 22, 2022. She was born in Lenoir County to the late Jesse and Louise Burroughs Carter. In addition to her parents, Retha was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Eugene Hill; infant daughter, Annette Elps; and sisters, Rosalinda “Roxie” Hinson and Virginia “Tootsie” Garner.

Retha’s world revolved around her family. From Christmas gatherings to family reunions, Retha looked forward to times when she could be surrounded by her loved ones. Her family enjoyed times shared with Retha, especially when her homemade chocolate pie was expected to be on the table.

No matter the occasion, Retha was always ready to “hit the road”. Whether a road trip to the mountains or the beach, or just a drive to Goldsboro Bingo, Retha was always on the go. Even a ride on the back of Clifton’s Harley wasn’t out of the question. Her favorite travel was likely her daily trek to Wal-Mart, as no one loved to shop more than Retha.

A service of love and remembrance will be held by the graveside at Cobb Cemetery on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 3 p.m., with Pastor Don Sauls officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening, September 23, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.

Retha is survived by her children, Monet Buck, Clifton Elps, Teenna Reece, and Lawanna-Anne Howard; grandchildren, Damon Boseman, Ryan Buck, Brittany Reece, Jesse Reece, Ashley Elps, Brandon Elps, Stephanie Combs, and Jeremiah Waddell; siblings, Cindy Ruffin Price, James “Bozy” Carter (Judy), Doug Carter (Sharon), Stanley Carter (Sue), and Michael Carter; caregiver and friend, Christina Jones; along with several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
