Stevens Mill Road Getting Drainage Improvements

Wayne County Highway Requires Temporary Closure

A 1.2-mile section of U.S. 117 north of Goldsboro will temporarily close starting Wednesday to allow state highway crews to improve the drainage system.

Crews will replace a total of three crossline pipes with larger pipes underneath the highway between Hinnant Road and Airport Road.

The work will necessitate closing the highway starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The work is expected to take at least a week to complete, weather permitting before the road can be reopened.

In the meantime, drivers can follow these detours:

U.S. 117 going south: Hinnant Road to Salem Church Road to Stoney Hill Road to U.S. 117

U.S. 117 going north: Airport Road to Mount Carmel Church Road to U.S. 117

Drivers should slow down near the work site and anticipate a longer commute using the detour.
