Vance E. Kornegay, resident of the Rones Chapel Community near Mount Olive, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Wayne Hospital.

His family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 12, from 6 until 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with burial to follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Kornegay had served proudly in the United States Army, and after his military retirement, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier.  He attended Rones Chapel United Methodist Church and was avid with woodworking and had a fierce love for guns.

Surviving him are sons, William “Will” Russell Kornegay and wife, Deborah Ann, of Dudley, and Trey Fisher and wife, Krista, of Texas; his mother, Christine W. Kornegay of Mount Olive; and three sisters, Wanda K. Smith and husband, Doug, of Princeton, Rosalee K. Bond, and husband, Kim, of Atlantic Beach, and Mary Lou K. Tolbert and husband, Rick, of Pittsboro.  There are three grandchildren, Love Kornegay, Nicole Joyner, and Seth Fisher, and his wife, Racheal; and a great-granddaughter, Ryland Fisher, all of whom he loved very much.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Hutsell Kornegay; and his father, William H. Kornegay.
