Jean Head Siler

August 31, 2022, 92, Goldsboro –

Jean Head Siler died on August 31, 2022. She was the adoring wife of Sandy Siler and the daughter of
Margaret Berry Head and Laska H. Head of Seven Springs. Sandy and her son, Laska David, preceded
her in death.
Jeannie was the proud and loving mother of Mary Margaret Siler Head & husband, Larry of Prattville, AL,
and Paul David Siler & wife Cheetie Kumar of Raleigh. Her grandsons, Siler Thomas Head & David
Benjamin Head, who brought her so much joy, also survive as well as her sister Lyn H Siler, nieces Amy
Jennings Siler, husband Shawn Underwood, Krista Grace Siler, and grand niece and nephew, Simon and
Arie Shrieder.
Except for 4 years spent studying at East Carolina, she lived all her life in Wayne County and taught in the
public school system for over 30 years, the last 15 of which she spent teaching kindergarten at Meadow
Lane Elementary in Goldsboro. Jeannie loved teaching and cherished her students. Along with teaching,
gardening was a joy and she spent many hours tending to her plants and flowers along with Sandy, her
gardening partner. She loved her church, St Francis Episcopal, and was a faithful member serving as past
Altar Guild Chairman and for many years as Flower Guild Chairman. Her talent for arranging flowers was
second to none!
Her love of animals will be remembered. She grew up with animals on the family farm in Seven Springs
and took care of many well-loved pets over the years.
Jeannie was a gentle person who deeply loved her family & her friends. Services will be conducted at St
Francis Episcopal Church on Forest Hills Dr in Goldsboro at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 12th. The
family will greet friends in the parish hall at St Francis following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Francis or the Wayne County SPCA.
