Site Expansion Brings Jobs to Greene County

The NC Rural Infrastructure Authority announced today that H&T Trucking, Inc., a company that primarily transports bulk feed and live animals, will receive a grant from the state’s Building Reuse Program. Earlier today, the NC Rural Infrastructure Authority approved Greene County’s request for $175,000 in funds to support the building reuse of H&T Trucking, Inc.

H&T Trucking, Inc. is expanding its current operations at its Bullhead site to add a mechanical shop, wash-out bay, and office space. This hiring of new positions and creating new jobs is also contributing to the growth of the local Greene County economy. The project brings a capital investment of more than $450,000 over the next five (5) years to Greene County and is expected to create more than 70 additional jobs at that site.

“This is great news for the people of Greene County. These new jobs and investments will bring
additional regional growth and economic opportunities. I’m grateful for the hard work of all those
involved who helped make it happen.” said House Majority Leader John Bell.

Jeff Turnage, H&T Trucking owner, added, “I am proud of our family-owned business and what we
have built over the past 30 years. The significant role we play in the county to provide jobs for the
citizens and contribute to the investment of economic growth in eastern NC is an honor. We look
forward to being able to support our local community with more job opportunities as a result of this
expansion and receive this grant to support further economic expansion and a bright future for Greene
County.”

Bennie Heath, Chairman Greene County Commissioners, “It is an honor and a pleasure to announce
a building reuse expansion project in Greene county. We have all felt the negative impacts of the
coronavirus pandemic. Yet, here we are today announcing that one of our Greene County businesses
is investing $450,000 and adding 70 new employees. I thank all involved in the process, from business
owners to economic developers, to the North Carolina Department of Commerce, and all the others
who may have positively impacted this project. There are so many pieces to the puzzle to make this a
reality. Again, it’s an honor to recognize such a significant accomplishment in the face of adversity.
May God continue to richly bless Greene County, North Carolina, and the United States of America.”

Mark Pope, NCGTPEDR Senior Vice President, stated, “We continue to be enthusiastic about our
companies in Rural eastern NC. Our trucking industry plays a major role in everything we do. The
announcement of H & T Trucking, Inc. expanding in Greene County, creating 70 additional jobs, and
continuing to invest in our community is tremendous news.  We are so pleased that H&T is committed
to growing here.”

Kyle DeHaven, Greene County Manager, “We are very encouraged to hear that another well-run
Greene County business is expanding its services. This business industry serves a vital role in support
of our supply chain, and this expansion will assist in the continued recovery of our post-pandemic
economy.”

Partnering with the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the EDPNC on this project were the
North Carolina General Assembly, Greene County, the North Carolina Department of Transportation,
the North Carolina Global TransPark Economic Development Region, Lenoir Community College, and
the North Carolina Community College System.
